SUNDAY SCHOOL BULLETIN
PURPOSE: At Pentecost, Luke records in ACTS 2:42 that those who received the word of truth then met “and they continued steadfastly in the Apostles’ teaching and in fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and the prayers.” Sunday School is one of several venues available within our church to provide edifying instruction in the Apostles’ teaching for the perfecting, service, and maturity of Christ’s Church, so that we grow into the fullness of the stature of Christ, being no longer children, “tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine.” (Eph. 4:7-16)
PROGRAM: There are two components to our Sunday School, one for Adults/Teenagers, and one for Children.
ADULTS/TEENS: The Christian Education Committee has produced a Sunday School curriculum designed to instruct believers in every area of Biblical learning, from the basics to more advanced studies. We will always strive to provide well-prepared and spiritually edifying teaching. Also, we encourage any teenagers so inclined to participate in the adult classes, but only after prayerful consideration and parental consent. We do not adulate the youth culture as the world does. Instead, we see our teens as budding young adults that should be aspiring to maturity in thought, word, and deed, and not into perpetual immaturity.
CHILDREN: The primary responsibility for instructing children in the word of God lies with parents, through family devotions, (led by fathers whenever possible), and by creating models of Christian home and family life. This is the prime directive for parents. It is not to achieve the so-called American dream at the expense of letting our children go wild in the streets. As such, the CE Committee is determined to maintain a perennial environment of assisting parents in fulfilling this Biblical mandate (Deut. 6:4-9) through workshops, seminars, Sunday school classes, and small group settings: and yes, we will also assist in teaching our children of all ages through our children’s Sunday school program. We highly recommend that parents make every effort to have their children attend classes, as you also participate in the adult classes.

CURRENT CHILDREN CLASSES
APRIL 19TH –JUNE 28TH
LOCATIONS: All classes, with the exception of Toddlers, meet in the classrooms adjacent to the fellowship hall.
CURRICULUM: from the Toddler class through the Senior High class, SPC has relied upon Great Commissions Publications for our children’s materials. This curriculum includes colorful visuals to help teachers effectively present the materials that are tailored to their age group. It helps equip each level as the students grow, not just in knowledge, but in their readiness to take up their place in God’s world.
TODDLER: (Across from Church office)
Our youngest students begin the discovery of who God is through basic Old and New Testament stories. They learn about the works of God and His loving gift of salvation in Christ, His Son. It teaches them a beginning vocabulary of faith.
PRESCHOOL/KINDERGARDEN:
Children learn how God relates to His covenant people through Bible stories and how to trust God to keep His promises in the Bible. They explore God’s wonderful treasures from creation to the resurrection. Students begin to understand what it means to be His children as they find their place in God’s family.
YOUNGER ELEMENTARY/1ST & 2ND GRADE:
Through a study of stories from the entire Bible, Younger elementary children begin to understand biblical truths and how they relate to one another. They learn the importance of God’s Word in their lives and how to trust and obey God by looking at the lives of Old and New Testament believers.
MIDDLE ELEMENTARY/3RD & 4TH GRADE:
Middle elementary integrates Bible stories around certain unifying themes such as worship, grace, missions, witnessing, trusting God and servants of God. Because students at this age are developing skills of conceptual thinking, discovery of truths from Scripture is emphasized through comparing, contrasting, and analyzing.
OLDER ELEMENTARY/5TH & 6TH GRADE:
Older elementary deals with Bible history and chronology is particular. Preteens develop an understanding of how God has revealed Himself in His Word by studying God’s redemptive plan through a survey of all the books of the Bible. The emphasis is that Jesus Christ is central in all of God’s Word.
JUNIOR HIGH:
Biblical teaching reaches a pinnacle with Junior High. Tracing the Bible’s central theme –the covenant of grace- students discover God’s eternal plan to save His people. Your preteen and teen students will learn about God’s faithfulness through His covenant.
SENIOR HIGH:
As teenagers prepare for adulthood, Senior High teaches key elements of Bible truths through studying the books of the Bible. The emphasis is on how we should stand and live as citizens of God’s kingdom.
